Update from Liz Saturday night 1/17

It's Saturday night around ten pm.  We just got the results of at test that they did earlier this evening.  It's called a fetal fibronectin test, for all you medical minds out there.  Basically, it's a test to determine the likelihood of me going into premature labor in the next one to two weeks.  It measures a certain protein around the cervical area.  The presence of the protein would mean that my body is in "labor" mode.  Well, we are happy to say that the test came back negative!!  We were praying for two things tonight during this exam: that I wouldn't be dilated anymore than I was yesterday, and that this fetal fibronectin test would come back negative.  God answered both of our prayers just how we hoped He would!  He has encouraged us greatly.  We are now certain that, from what we can tell from the tests that they did today, that nothing has changed between yesterday and today.  We will have an ultrasound done probably on Monday to determine that for sure, but we are encouraged tonight none-the-less.  The plan from here on out is to just continue bedrest in the hospital until Monday at least, when the perinatologist (high-risk pregnancy doctor) can do her ultrasound.  She has informed us of her probable course of action at this point as far as possible drug therapy or releasing back to home bedrest; we'll probably expound on that later once we know the plan for sure.
We've been told that if I were deliver at this point in pregnancy, that the survial rate for our baby boy would be 50-75%.  If I were to make it to twenty-eight weeks, then the survival rate would be 100%!  So, please pray with us that I would make it as long as possible, but that I would at least make it to that 28 week mark!  Right now I am 24 weeks 3 days.  February 11th will be 28 weeks.
As we were talking to the doctor today it was wonderful to be able to tell her that we had every confidence in her, but that our ultimate trust is in God who controls everything.  She agreed completely with us, and elaborated to us that she is "only His tool" and that if our trust is in Him, then it is in the right place!  Amen!
We will let you know more as we know it.  Just keep praying for quiet and boring days!  We want this baby to stay in me for as long as possible!  Nothing scheduled for tomorrow as far as tests or anything, so we may just update you on Monday unless something happens tomorrow (Sunday).  Also pray for good rest for me while in the hospital.  It's important for me to have good night's of sleep.
Thank you for your prayers and concern and your comments too!  We love hearing from you and we are encouraged by your prayers!
Liz

We will be praying for you here at Maranatha in Dover. Some of us prayed last evening. My personal pray is for you to be able to rest reaasonably quiet for 4 weeks. Our God is able. I understand to horrible thought of complete bed rest. Our ladies class will be praying for you at about 10AM today. Becky.

Thank you for the update, Liz! I am SO EXCITED that your test came back negative, and that you're not any more dialated than Friday. Praise the Lord! I'm thankful for your Christian doctor, and will pray that God guides each doctor and nurse that cares for you and the little one. How much do they think the baby weighs now? I'm hoping he's close to 2 lbs! We'll keep praying, and please let us know if you need anything done in DM, since we're here! We love all three of you like crazy!!

Andy and Liz --- I thought of you as I pulled into the church parking lot, and saw your little red truck sitting there. It reminded me to pray for you this morning. It was great to hear the update yesterday in church saying that Liz is not showing signs of going into labor right now---PTL! Everyone clapped when we heard the news. Then we talked to Andrea Terrones yesterday at lunch, and she said she had had your doctor, and is so appeciative of her testimony and trust in God. Wow! That sure helps in building trust in her as a doctor, too! We are still human, so even though we know God can keep us safe all by Himself, it is somehow comforting when there is someone "with skin on," as a friend of mine used to say, to come along side us while we live life! Anyway, just wanted you to know we're excited for the recent news, and if you need something --- even someone to run errands or bring McDonalds to you once in awhile, let us know!

    We're praying for you!
