Monday afternoon update, January 19th

Hello everyone!  Thank you for all your prayers; we are so thankful for the prayer warriors that God has supplied for us during this time.  Yesterday was another quiet day, thank the Lord!  Andy and I had a time of devotions together in place of going to church.  We had to cancel our meeting in Dike, IA yesterday, of course.  We thank God that they were understanding of our situation, hopefully we can reschedule that meeting at a time when life isn't so "serious".  As we prayed together yesterday, we remembered all of you in our prayers.  Since we have had the privilege of worshiping with many of you in your home churches, we were able to picture you all in our minds and thank the Lord for your faithful prayers on our behalf.
Here is the latest news.  We had an ultrasound this morning to check on everything.  This might have been done yesterday, except that it was the weekend, so we waited until an ultrasonographer was available this morning.  The results came back exactly as the doctor had predicted.  I'm not dilated any further, and I still have no contractions, but the ultrasound showed that I have what is called a 'dynamic cervix'.  Meaning that it tends to open and close very easily on it's own due to any change in pressure.  That means that as the baby moves around, or as I am on my feet, the cervix is constantly fluctuating open and close depending on how much pressure is on the cervix.  That is the reason why I am still on bedrest---the less pressure on my cervix the better.
The doctor has recommended a drug called Indocin to reduce the amount of amniotic fluid in order to reduce the pressure on my cervix.  This is a drug that has risks involved, mostly if you take it after 32 weeks gestation, so they will back me off of the drug if there are any concerns, and certainly before I am 32 weeks.  We pray that I make it that long, and that my body does not decide to go into labor before then.  The doctor is very hopeful that I will stablilize and be okay.  She has had plenty of experience with this sort of thing, and we are very happy with all our doctors here at Methodist.  The plan right now is to keep me on hospital berest through this Friday, the 23rd, to see how the Indocin is working--this will be determined by doing another ultrasound.  If the ultrasound shows that the amount of fluid has reduced, and that my cervix is staying closed better, then the doctor will increase my activity a little bit over this next weekend to see how the cervix holds.  The increase in activity will be that I will be able to take a shower in a chair--I can't wait!!  So, hopefully we have some more uneventful days ahead of us, and we'll see how everything pans out on Friday when we do another ultrasound.
I should mention that the baby is doing wonderfully.  He is as active as ever, with very strong kicks!!  He has a history of being stubborn for ultrasounds, and today was no exception, except that we were finally able to get some really cute profile pictures.  I wish we could scan them and post them for you all to see.  His hands remind us a lot of our first son; we can picture how small they are after seeing Collin when he was that small too, actually Collin was even smaller.  We learned this morning that the baby is 1 lb 11 oz.  That's normal for how old he is, so we are thankful that he's still growing well.  He is breach right now, but hopefully he'll stay in me a lot longer, and have lots of time to move around, and his position right now won't matter at all.
Right now we are limiting the amount of visitors we receive just to give me as much rest as possible, without a lot of activity, and also to limit what kind of germs get into the room since my condition is still unstable right now.  Andy and I are filling our days with lots of reading and we like to watch "Wheel of Fortune."  We've become a good team at guessing the puzzles!  We could probably appear on the show someday and do pretty well at it.
Well, it's not the most comfortable thing trying to type while laying down, so I'll end this now.  But, we owe you all an update and our sincerest gratitude for your prayers and notes.  Keep praying, God is being continually faithful and teaching us a lot already through this experience.  We are used to being used of Him in whatever way He chooses; we pray that we will honor Him in this capacity as well as we daily place our trust in Him.

Hey guys, I just wanted to remind you that you have many people out here in Ohio praying for you (including us!). We love you so much, and are content that you are in God's hands, an omnipotent God at that, who loves you even more than we do. We're anxious to meet that new life inside of you, but we'll wait- we're not THAT anxious! If you need anything at all, please let us know! Remember, we have lots of great Christian Fiction books you could borrow and read! Lots of love and prayers your way, Dan and Beth

Praise the Lord for answers to why these things are happening - and for confidence in the doctor - and for a doctor who knows to Whom she owes the credit! I hope you are encouraged. Hang in there!

Just want you to know we are praying. Have a lady in our church who had four boys - all premies - the earliest at 28 weeks. Recently had a baby girl - went into labor around week 24 and made it to 32. Our God can and will answer prayer!

    Andy and Liz,
We have been checking the blog for updates so we can pray more intelligently. I passed along word to our church here in Walnut Sunday Evening and I will give an update tonight as well.

Just know that we are praying for God's perfect strength and comfort in this time of testing. Remember...the best is yet to come.
