Thursday morning 2/5
We are now 27 weeks along in the pregnancy. I can tell this impresses the doctors, because they all seem very happy to remind me that we are now that far along. Just less than a week, and we will be 28 weeks, which is our next goal. The baby will fare so much better after that point if he comes early.
This week has been exciting and active for me. When I last wrote on Monday, the doctor had just started to introduce some more activity into my schedule and it made me feel a little apprehensive. I figured, why not just stay flat and then we won't risk making my body go into labor? But, Monday night Dr. Drake gave me a firm pep talk and Tuesday morning I started my wheelchair rides. It was amazing and very informative to get out of my room! I got to see the nurses desk, the snack room and the nursery. There is one room that always smells so good because there are always chocolate chip cookies in there. How do I get into that room??
Each wheelchair ride lasts around 15-20 minutes. I have also started sitting all the way up for my meals, and staying that way for an hour at a time. So, my total "sit up" time per day is around 4 hours.
We had an ultrasound this morning to check and see how my body is reacting to this increase in activity. From what we can tell, it was a very good ultrasound! Ever since we were admitted to the hospital three weeks ago, our ultrasounds have looked pretty much the same, but today it was different--in a good way! My cervix is measuring longer; at least 2cm! That means it is getting stronger and staying closed most of the time! In our minds, this doesn't make sense because we expected it to be the same or shorter if anything, since I have been more active this week. I asked our sonographer if that seemed strange to her, and she said, "yes, but some things we just can't explain." Andy said, "It's a God thing", and she agreed. I know this particular sonographer from when I went to college with her at Faith Baptist Bible College, so we know she was praising the Lord with us. We can only praise the Lord for helping me have the confidence to begin more activity and then blessing us with such a good ultrasound this morning. Also, the baby continues to do well. He's still breach, but like I've said before, he's got time to move. He is also weighing in at 2 pounds.
So, tonight or tomorrow morning we will find out if we get to go home this weekend or not. Right now, I can't see any reason why Dr. Drake would keep me here, but we will wait until we talk to her to tell you one way or another. The idea of going home is getting to be more and more attractive to me and Andy! Although we are used to not being home, due to the nature of our missionary work right now, we are still missing our own beds and everything else about home, especially my Kraft Macaroni and Cheese! (that last one is more me than Andy).
We will let you know when (or if) we get to go home; I'll write again tonight or tomorrow depending on when we talk to Dr. Drake. Thank you for your prayers, again.
