33rd week Doctor Appointment
We had our doctor appointment yesterday. I wanted to write a quick update about how it went since I said I would. We did the ultrasound right away and everything looks great with the baby! We were checking mainly to see that his weight has been staying on track since I have gestational diabetes. The fear is that babies whose mom's have gestational diabetes get too big. But, our little guy is 5 lbs, 1 oz--right on track! We praise the Lord that I have been able to handle the diabetes issue with simple diet changes.
Our baby is still in the breech position, unfortunately. Dr. Drake does not think that he will turn. He seems to be pretty settled in and has a typical shaped head for a breech baby. Breech babies tend to have more "perfect" heads as opposed to cone-shaped heads that vertex babies often have. So, at least our baby will have a perfectly shaped head, possibly! Dr. Drake did advise us to look into the possibility of having a doctor try to turn the baby before delivery. It is an option for us to consider. Not all doctors do this manipulation procedure, but we could probably find one who would do it. There are some risks involved with trying to turn the baby from the outside, but the baby is always monitored and watched very closely throughout the procedure. This is something we will have to pray more about and maybe inquire about it at our next OB appointment.
We got some great pictures of the baby again! We've been looking at this baby for a long time and it will be nice to see him in person. I think we both look forward to seeing just exactly how big his lips are--in more than a couple of our pictures of him, he always has his lips sticking way out and puckered like he's trying to give kisses! It's cute.
This was officially the last time that we will see Dr. Drake; she made no return appointments for us to come back and check on the baby's size. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend! Before we left, she wanted to ask more questions about our missionary work because she feels the Lord has called her to do maybe a short-term mission trip someday, so we said we would keep in touch. She also said we better send her a baby announcement so she can praise the Lord with us for His faithfulness! She told us as we were leaving that God has blessed us. And He certainly has! She has been such an encouragement to us throughout the last ten weeks! We thank God for giving us a good doctor!
So, it was a very good appointment yesterday! Thanks for praying!

Elizabeth;
I have heard of different techniques to turn the baby - playing soft music (toward your feet), and he might turn toward the sound... just a thought.

Elizabeth;
I have also heard where the Daddy has spoken to the baby, (also toward the feet) and the baby has moved toward his voice (this is very difficult for the mom to do
p.s. check out some websites - they have other ideas.
p.s.s. I am involved with a mom's group of many young siblings (MOMYS) and they are always talking about these type of things.
