What's that smell?
It's been interesting getting settled into our trailer over the last three weeks. It seems like every day there is something new to require our attention, whether it be a leaking toilet, an overflowing bathtub, a light that won't stay on, or pesky critters outside. By far the worst problem was a seriously rank smell that started in our master bedroom on Friday, and by the time we got home from our meeting on Sunday, it had permeated the whole trailer, and I could even smell it outside the trailer! It was too late to do anything about the smell Sunday night, so we decided to try and go to sleep and handle it in the morning. Monday morning came and I had a stomach and head ache seemingly from the awful smell. Andy started inspecting the smelly trailer for a dead animal, or sewage water in the wrong spot. Our neighbor came home from work and he and Andy looked some more. They opened the battery compartment of the trailer. Our neighbor stuck his head in there right away and QUICKLY jerked back and yelled, "WHOA!" The awful smell was coming from the battery! I guess when batteries get overcharged they start to smell like rotten eggs! The problem has gotten better ever since then because we left the door to the battery compartment open to vent. No more stench! Thank goodness! Not sure how we're going to solve this problem in the long run, but I'm sure Andy has it figured out.
